Professor Emeritus in History Dr. Caroline Castillo Crimm is our speaker for this meeting. After 20 years of award-winning teaching at the college and university levels, Dr. Crimm has been the speaker for historical documentaries shown on PBS and the History Channel. Dr. Crimm, whose Ph.D. is in Latin American History from the University of Texas, has earned the distinction of being named a Piper Professor as one of the “Best Teachers in Texas.” Her specialty, including an award-winning book De León: A Tejano History, is 18th and 19th century Texas. I did not know until this last Newsletter that in 2001, the Farris cabin was donated to the City of Huntsville and Dr. Crimm headed the project to disassemble, repair, move and reassemble the cabin on Courthouse Square. She is also the popular owner/operator of a tour business known as Texas Historic Tours. The author of numerous books, we are proud to say that she is one of our members!
Texas General Land
Office
Our own Dr. Caroline Crimm is generously presenting a program on the "Texas General Land Office" and the rough and tumble problems of when Texas became a republic and thousands owned Mexican land grants. But how to prove it? Fraud, illegal titles, and stolen land grants meant the GLO faced a difficult time in proving ownership. Dr. Crimm has agreed to present this as a hybrid Zoom meeting.so come join us at the library or join us online.
